Full Roller Layout Comparison for a Symmetrical Ball


We would like to thank you again for requesting this study for full roller layouts. The study has now been completed by performing an in-depth analysis on symmetrically cored bowling balls and the results can be found in the accompanying chart below. The details of the Aggressive Full Roller layout differ between symmetrical and asymmetrical bowling balls due to the variability in the location of the high RG axis on the drilled ball. However, the recommended Pin Out and Top Weight specifications are the same for either type of bowling ball. We look forward to hearing from those full rollers who try this aggressive layout on symmetrical equipment.


Standard Full Roller Layout Symmetrical Ball

The Standard Full Roller layout places the CG ¾” right of the centergrip on the Midline and the Pin in the 7:00 position. We recommend a ball with a 3-4” Pin and 2.5 - 3 oz. Top Weight for the Standard Layout. No Balance Hole is used in this layout. I have included a picture for your review.


The Aggressive Full Roller layout for a symmetrical ball places the CG 1” right of the centerline and approximately 1” above the Midline while the Pin is placed in the 7:00 position 3 3/8" from the centergrip. The fingers are drilled to a depth of 4" to increase differential and a 7/8" Balance Hole is placed in the intended PSA 2 1/2” deep and pitched 1" away from the fingers. For comparison purposes, I have included the mass properties Pre and Post balance hole. We recommend a ball with a 4-5” Pin and 2.5 - 3.5 oz. Top Weight for the Aggressive Layout. Again, I have included a picture for your review.

The accompanying chart includes the mass properties for the un-drilled and drilled balls. Notice that the un-drilled balls begin with the recommended Pin Out distances and Top Weight values for each layout. A modest 7/8" balance hole was used in the aggressive layout to ensure static weights remain legal while attempting to further maximize the differentials of the drilled ball.
